Welsh youngsters triumph in UK technology competition

More than 230 primary schools across the UK registered for the 2009 competition, which challenged 9-11 year olds to demonstrate how technology can be used creatively to make people happy.

Pupils at Trowbridge used animation to create short video clips showcasing the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle for their winning entry.

Three overall winners were chosen from the twelve winners representing each of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the nine English regions. The overall national winner was the Armthorpe Schools Pyramid from the Yorkshire & Humberside region, with second place going to Bowbridge Primary School from the East Midlands.

In recognition of the students' work, winning schools from each region received a prize of £1,200, with additional awards of £4,000, £2,500 and £1,500 going to the schools placed first, second and third overall.

The annual competition is supported by BCS, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Nominet Trust.

Date: 9th November 2009
