Work Experience

Go Wales

Higher Education Institutions in Wales have combined to develop the flagship GO Wales employability programme which provides a comprehensive package of support for students and graduates living or studying in Wales plus tangible benefits for local businesses.

Graduate Opportunities Wales is managed and funded centrally by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales with additional funds from the European Union. As part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s long-term strategy for Higher Education, GO Wales is on target to help over 8,000 undergraduates and graduates in Wales over the next two years.

The GO Wales programme is split into several distinct service areas each led by a different HEI providing the following services: -

  • Paid work placements: 10 weeks in a local company
  • Work Tasters: voluntary work experience in particular business sectors
  • Continuing Professional Development: financial support and advice companies wishing to train their graduate employees
  • Job-Shops & Graduate Support: a comprehensive range of advice, guidance and jobs
  • Additional Advice and Guidance: support for those who feel they are disadvantaged and alternative forms of careers advice to ensure accessibility for all.

All the above services are available on an all-Wales basis bringing a consistently high-quality to the wide range of service available in the Welsh HEIs. The future for graduates and students studying in Wales (or returning during the vacation) looks decidedly rosy with work placements, part-time work, training and development opportunities and much more on offer through the GO Wales employability programme.

More information can be obtained from our helpline on 0845 225 60 50, at www.gowales.co.uk or via the Careers Service at any Welsh HEI
